Description

पाचामुखी (Pachamukhi) is a Marathi novel by P.L. Deshpande. It was first published in 1961 by Parchure Prakashan Mandir. The novel is set in a small village in Maharashtra and tells the story of a family of five brothers. The novel explores the themes of family relationships, love, loss, and death. The novel is divided into five parts, each of which is narrated from the perspective of one of the five brothers. The first part, "माझं नाव आहे बाळा" ("My name is Bala"), is narrated by the eldest brother, Bala. The second part, "माझं नाव आहे भाऊ" ("My name is Bhau"), is narrated by the second brother, Bhau. The third part, "माझं नाव आहे काका" ("My name is Kaka"), is narrated by the third brother, Kaka. The fourth part, "माझं नाव आहे चिंटू" ("My name is Chintu"), is narrated by the fourth brother, Chintu. The fifth and final part, "माझं नाव आहे राजा" ("My name is Raja"), is narrated by the youngest brother, Raja. The novel has been praised for its realistic portrayal of rural life in Maharashtra, its nuanced exploration of family relationships, and its powerful insights into the human condition. It is considered one of Deshpande's best works.
